If you have been following me along this past month, you may have noticed back in September I decided to take the plunge to get  hair extensions.  Getting hair extensions has been a debate of mine for the past year. I was tired of my hair not growing past a certain length and I was over not being able to put my hair into braids and to do fun hairstyles.  Getting extensions can be quite the investment, but if you are someone who shares the same hair issues I had or doesn’t have a lot of volume,  extensions may be a great option for you.

Getting my extensions was a game changer for me.  I have more volume and length I was never able to get.  My curls last longer, and I am able to do fun braids with my hair that I never could do before. The process of finding the best hair extensions can be quite overwhelming at first. That is why I am being 100% open and honest about my hair extensions.  If there is anything I don’t answer in this post. Please leave a comment below and I will do my best to answer it!

What type of extensions do I have?

There are several methods of putting extensions in and I highly recommend doing your research on the method and the hairstylist before you get them.  Certain methods can be very damaging to your hair and are not worth the investment and can fall out easily or not blend in well. The type of extensions I got are Great Length Hair extensions and she also does the the Kacey Welch Method  and Natural beaded rows hair extensions as well (Both are sewn in). All three methods are the best for you hair.  I do not see any damage in my hair , in fact, I think my actual hair is able to grow longer because it is being protected by my extensions when I use styling tools. My extensions are real human hair and have the same texture as my hair. They blend in with my hair so well that I forget they are even in!

Who did my extensions

I asked numerous people for recommendations in the Indy area on where to get extensions. By far, the  most recommended name wast Marie from Hair Extensions by Marie (@hairextensionsbymarie). With over 30+ years hair extension experience and a thriving business she is the hair extension queen.   She has done extensions for the NFL cheerleaders and miss Indiana USA. Marie is also a Platinum provider with Great Lengths, which is a BIG deal in the extension world and a major accomplishment.

How much does do extensions cost?

This is probably the most asked question I get.  This is also the hardest question to answer because it 100% depends on the amount of hair you have and the length.  Great Length extensions are the BEST extensions on the market so you are going to pay for the quality. All extensions are an investment and the upfront cost is going to cost the most.  Once you get them in you get them “moved up”, that cost is cheaper. The best way of getting a price range is by getting a free consultation with Marie. She will look at your hair, color match, and put in a few samples.  The process takes 15 minutes and by the end of if you will have a price of how much it will cost.

How long did it take?

I first did a free 15-20 minute consultation at Marie’s salon where she color matched the extensions with my hair and put a few samples in my hair to try for a few days to see if I like them. I love this because you get a feel of what they feel like before you go all in. To book your free consultation click HERE

On the day of getting the extensions, it took Marie about 3 hours to get them all in.  This may seem like a long time, but Marie actually gets it done much quicker than most people mainly because she has been doing extensions for so long and knows what she is doing.  I was able to bring my computer and work the entire time which was VERY nice.

How long do they last?

Most extensions have to be changed, moved up, or replaced every 6-8 weeks, BUT with Great Lengths I don’t have to change mine for up to 4-6 months!!

Do the extensions hurt?

NO! I forget they are even in.  The only time I felt a little pressure was the first night when I slept.  After that it is smooth sailing!

Can you braid your hair or put it in a ponytail without seeing the extensions?

YES!! That is the best part about getting Great Lengths extensions over the other types is that is its almost impossibly to see them! In the 2 months I have had the extensions I haven’t had any person ask me if I got extensions because they blend in with my hair so well.  Below are some pictures of my hair styled in different ways.

So I want to learn more about Extensions, what do I do next?

Marie books up pretty quickly and is already almost booked for the holidays.  I would recommend getting your consultation in sooner than later. Click HERE to book a free consultation appointment with Marie.

I just found you via pinterest and haven’t looked all over your site yet….your hair looks gorgeous! Do you have before and after photos somewhere? (I’ll go look too!) And how long and how many bundles did you use? I had a consult today and am debating doing 12 or 16 inches. My hair is shoulder length and I want to be sure I LOVE the look but I’m worried between “What if I spend this money and wish they were longer???” and “what if everyone thinks I’m CRAZY if I suddenly have long hair out of nowhere?” 🙂 Thanks for any thoughts you have!
