What I love about Aspen is how easy it is to get around. Most hikes are just a few minutes outside of town, and the food scene is just as good as the views. From iconic spots like the Maroon Bells to one-of-a-kind experiences like making a custom hat at Kemo Sabe, every trip here feels special.

When to Go

Aspen truly shines all year long, but my favorite seasons are summer and fall. Summer means long hikes, wildflowers, and patio dining, while fall is absolutely breathtaking with golden aspens and crisp mountain air. Winter, of course, is iconic for skiing and après, and spring offers quieter vibes if you want to avoid the crowds.

• Hunter Creek Trail – A great option for a half-day hike with meadows, forests, and river views.
• American Lake Trail – Steeper climb but the alpine lake at the top is breathtaking.
• Ute Trail – Short but steep, ending with one of the best overlooks of Aspen.

Here’s a breakdown of our favorite trails! I also noted which ones are swimming-friendly and pet-friendly for you guys. 

Smoky Mountain National Park

• Ramsey Cascades
  8 miles | Moderate to Hard
  A longer climb with a waterfall payoff—great if you’re up for a challenge and want to stay off the more crowded trails.

• Charlies Bunion
  8 miles | Moderate | Family-friendly
  A longer hike, but the trail is well-maintained and the views are unreal. One of our favorite family-friendly options for older kids.

• Mt. LeConte via Alum Cave Bluffs
  11 miles | Hard
  A true summit hike! Gorgeous views the whole way, but definitely a full-day effort. Pack snacks and pace yourself.

• Rainbow Falls
  5 miles | Moderate | Family-friendly
  A great trail with a waterfall at the end, good for families who want a solid hike without committing to a full-day trek.

• Andrew’s Bald
  3.6 miles | Moderate | Family-friendly
  A peaceful, scenic trail. You can access it from the Kuwohi Tower trailhead—we did both in one day!

• Kuwohi Tower (Clingmans Dome)
  1.3 miles | Easy | Family-friendly
  Short and steep, but the views from the top are incredible. Tallest point in Tennessee and part of the Appalachian Trail.

Near Nashville

Rock Island State Park

Not a ton of long hikes here, but the swimming area is so fun in summer!

• Twin Falls & Downstream Trail
  1.6 miles | Easy
  Or just walk to Twin Falls and head back, super flexible depending on how much time you have.

• Old Mill Gorge Trail
  0.3 miles | Easy | Swimming

• Blue Hole Trail
  0.2 miles | Easy | Swimming

• Eagle Trail

Fall Creek Falls State Park

• Gorge Overlook & Woodland Trail Loop
  3.1 miles | Easy | Pet-friendly
  Scenic loop that’s great for casual hiking and easy to follow.

• Fall Creek Falls
  0.8 miles | Easy | Pet-friendly + Swimming
  Short but beautiful! You can connect it with the Gorge Overlook Trail for a longer loop.

• Trail that connects everything

Cummins Falls State Park

• Cummins Falls Trail
  2.4 miles | Moderate | Swimming
  You’ll need a reservation to access the falls. Bring water shoes—some parts involve walking through the river with water up to your knees!

Burgess Falls

• Burgess Falls Trail
  1.2 miles | Easy
  Quick, scenic, and waterfall views that feel like a reward with minimal effort.

Each year Nordstrom hosts a BIG sale called the Nsale. This is one of my favorite sales of the year! Nordstrom marks down SO many items from early fall things, to baby strollers, to beauty products and SO much more. It’s such a great time to snag a big-ticket item on sale, too! Let’s get into more of the details…

KEY DATES:

Nordstrom cardholders are able to get early access to this sale a week early, so if you have a Nordstrom card, you can now shop the sale! You can receive points on all purchases and get major rewards throughout the year. If you’re not a cardholder, sign up to become a free member and shop the sale during public access!

August 3, 2025

This is the LAST DAY of the sale. On August 3rd, everything will go back to its original, full price.

WHY IS THE NORDSTROM SALE WORTH IT?

Basically, this is a great time to buy solid, good-quality, staple pieces that will take you through the entire year into spring. I was able to purchase $35 workout leggings that I still love to this day (these leggings were originally $70). I also love this sale for the SHOES! This is when they release all of the cute Fall boots and booties but at almost 30-50% off the original price! The boots I purchased from this sale I wore throughout the entire winter.

TIPS FOR THE SALE:

• Sometimes they restock items that are sold out! The only catch is that they may restock them AFTER the sale ends. Most items sell out during the first week of the sale where only Card Members can shop. I DO NOT want to push getting a credit card to anyone that does not have the budget for it. However, if you do have the budget and want to get some staple pieces for the year, this sale has better sales than Black Friday.
• I usually think about staple pieces first, and then go for the trendy items. My biggest tip is to first shop for shoes, neutral cardigans/jackets, and activewear. Find pieces that can mix and match with pieces already in your wardrobe.
• Stay tuned on my Instagram and my Stories for updates!
• Shop the sale when it opens! Don’t want until the afternoon or weekends to shop. It can be crowded in stores.
• You can pick up at your local Nordstrom if you do not want to wait. It usually will be ready within a few hours.
  Nordstrom offers FREE SHIPPING and FREE RETURNS. You are always better safe than sorry purchasing the item before it sells out because you can always return it and buy it without the extra fees.
