The Sarasota Modern

Anyone else just want to get away during the cold winter months and just want to escape to someplace warm?  Josie (@josie_sanders) and I recently had the amazing opportunity to stay at the Sarasota Modern for a few days in Sarasota, FL. The Sarasota Modern is Pinterest perfect.  Everything, including the wallpaper in the elevators was designed with intention.  I immediately felt welcomed by the staff when I arrived and it felt like a home away from home.

Our trip was for three nights and we had an itinerary for us before we came filled with the top things to do in Sarasota.  I didn’t realized how many historic places are in Sarasota. In this post I am going to share with you where we stayed, my room, what I liked about the Sarasota Mordern, where we ate, and what we did.

About Sarasota, FL:

Located on an island off of the Gulf of Mexico, Sarasota is in the holy grail area for arguably the best beaches in the US.  The sand is powdery white and the waters are crystal blue.  Other major cities around Sarasota are St. Pete and Siesta Key.  What I loved about Sarasota is that it is up and coming without the major traffic.  I loved the white and bright architectures of the buildings that gave me a Miami vibes.  Just around every corner you can find a cute coffee shop, cafe, or restaurant that offers organic, fresh, locally grown food.  It is also a very artistic town and home to The Ringling Mansion and Museum and Mote Laboratory and Aquarium.

My Room: The Rosemary Suite

I had the pleasure of staying in the Rosemary Suite during my stay.  When I first walked into my room my jaw dropped onto the flloor. There was a full kitchen with sage colored cabinets, a full dining room and living area, a king bed with a double tv that could be seen from both parts of the room, and two sink bathroom, and a walk in shower.  Everything was clean and fresh.  My favorite part about my suite was the balcony with the famous pink floors and claw foot tub.  It was a piece of heaven!

Favorite Parts of The Sarasota Modern:

  • Clawfoot bathtubs located on the balcony for late night baths.
  • The decor is “pinterest perfect”.  I love the white walls with the pink flloors.
  • Bike Rentals on Site
  • Full gym with Pelaton Bikes.
  • Pool and Hot Tub with outdoor bar, ping pong tables, and restaurant, Rudolph’s.
  • In Room Spa Treatments by Pure Vie.
  • King Suite: full kitchen, living room, two sink bathroom, and kin size bed.

Where we ate:

Breakfast

The Overton: If you are looking for a cute hipster coffee shop with good food, The Overton is the place to go.  It is casual dining and you can either each in or to go.  I highly recommend getting the avocado toast with a flat white.  The coffee is not bitter and very smooth!  This is also a great spot for some fun photo opps.

Station 400: This train station themed quaint breakfast spot has your classic breakfast options.  I also was drooling over the nutella waffles that my friend ordered right next to me!

Lunch/Dinner:

Rudolph’s: Rudolph’s is located inside the Sarasota Modern and is home to Chef Jennifer Salhoff, one of the finalists from season 13 of Hell’s Kitchen.  What I love about Rudolph’s is that love to experiment with food and flavor.  Chef Jennifer does not put limits in her recipes and every recipe is fantastic.  My favorite Columbia Restaurant: This cuban cafe is located right in the heart of Sarasota in the popular St. Armand’s Circle.  The Columbia is home to fresh cuban food.  They are know for their “1905” Salad  and their cuban sandwich.

Shore: Shore is a restaurant located in  the popular St. Armand’s Circle — and definitely has more of an island feel.  They had amazing seafood.  My favorite is the beet salad, the brussel sprout salad, and their ahi tuna.

Lila: This was my favorite restaurant! Lila is a vegan restaurant (with a few meat options) that uses all local grown organic ingredients. What we did was split a few appetizers and then got a main dish.  Honestly, I could have easily gotten a few extra appetizers instead of the main dish because they were THAT good.  I would highly recommend getting the grilled tofu with the Lila’s Dragon sauce & the roasted yam wedges.  Click HERE for a full menu.

Muse: This restaurant is located inside The Ringling Museum.  It was amazing! I loved the fun atmosphere inside.  I would highly recommend getting the cypress salad.  It comes on a giant salt block!

Places to see:

Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium: Anything that involves cute animals I already love.  The Mote aquarium was amazing and we got to see just about every aquatic animal up and close.  I loved their mission to save injured or orphaned animals and taking them in and giving them a better life.  My favorites were the otters and sea turtles.

The Ringling: The Ringling was such an amazing experience.  It is the home of Mable and and John Ringling.  John was the creator of the famous The Ringling Brother circus.  I have never seen anything like this in the US.  I felt like I was at the Palace of Versailles in Paris.  It was amazing! I highliy recommend visiting and getting to know the history behind the Ringling’s and the circus.

Pura Vie In Room Spa Treatment: On day three I had the opportunity to get an in room massage from Pura Vie.  The Sarasota Modern has a unique option for visitors to receive any spa treatment from Pura Vie in the convenience of their own room.  It felt amazing and it was nice to not have to drive to get my massage.

In all honesty, this was one of the most relaxing trips I have taken in a long time.  The Sarasota Modern felt like a home away from home.  I definitely want to take a trip to Sarasota soon.  If you are considering a spot for a family vacation, a weekend getaway with your spouse, or a girls trip – the Sarasota Modern is the place to go!

xoxo,

Ashley
