Isn’t it funny how people can go from everything pumpkin to everything Holidays over night? I am a strong supporter of celebrating the holidays early. YES, I am one of those….but hear me out.

Notice I said holidays…plural….as in multiple Holidays…as in Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years. I love this time of year so much because of the music, the food, the quality time with loved ones, and most importantly celebrating what we are thankful for and to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Why not call it the Holiday season because well, thanksgiving is well, a holiday.
I may or may not put my Christmas tree up this week and I may play a few Christmas songs. I probably will have people judge me if I do, but that is OK. It is not about the Christmas tree or the music, but it is about building traditions and fun memories in my household. I grew up with many traditions, some that only lasted during a certain chapter in my life, and some that I have been doing for 20 years. One of my favorite traditions each year is getting up really early on Black Friday with my mama and going shopping. We blare Christmas music, get Starbucks for breakfast, Chick-fil-a for lunch and spend the entire day getting all of our Christmas shopping done. Another tradition that I have is having a friendsgiving/Christmas feast with my friends. Having these traditions with my family and friends brought us closer. In society, I feel like we put “rules” on ourselves instead of looking at the bigger picture. Sometimes you just have to go outside of the box society puts you in and do things because they are simply fun.
Honestly I could care less if your Christmas tree is up or what music you are listening to. Heck, you could have an Easter egg hunt for all I care. I care about relationships and finding ways to bring life to our relationships. November and December are not about when or when not to put up holiday decorations and the usual Holiday routine, but they are ultimately about our Lord and Savior who was born in a barn, crucified on the cross, and rose again for you, me, and every. SINGLE. person on this planet.
I challenge us the next time we see someone enjoying a tradition they love to do, instead of talking down on that person, encourage them and see the bigger picture.
